Safety Leadership Training Course, Director Liability, Board Agenda Template (Digital Download)
SAFETY LEADERSHIP — The Two Liabilities
Leadership is the single biggest factor in safety performance — bigger than the policy, the procedure, or the risk assessment sitting behind it. And most leaders don't fully understand the legal exposure that sits behind their own name if they get it wrong.
Safety Leadership is a complete, ready-to-teach training course built for directors, senior managers and line managers — written the way a working health and safety trainer would explain it, not the way a policy document would. It's not a motivational talk about "safety culture." It's a practical, legally grounded course on what actually makes leaders effective at driving safety performance, and exactly where UK law reaches them personally if they don't.
THE TWO LIABILITIES — Get safety wrong as a director and two separate legal risks activate. Under Section 37 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, a director, manager or other officer can be personally prosecuted where an offence was committed with their consent, connivance, or was attributable to their neglect — meaning the company being prosecuted does not shield the individual. Conviction can mean an unlimited fine, up to two years' imprisonment, and in Crown Court, disqualification as a director for up to fifteen years. Separately, the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 makes the organisation itself liable where senior management failures cause a death — carrying an unlimited fine and the power for a court to order a publicity order naming the company. This course comes with a ready-to-use Board Health & Safety Agenda Template so safety has a standing, minuted place on the board agenda — the kind of evidence that matters if a major incident is ever investigated. The Buncastle/COMAH-scale case files are a sobering case in point: board-level failure to ask the right questions, documented after the fact, at enormous personal and corporate cost.
Perfect for directors and board members, senior managers with safety in their portfolio, and line managers who need to understand where their personal exposure starts. No prior H&S qualification required — this is written in plain English, grounded in real law and real cases, not jargon.
